The island is bordered by the Alas Strait to the west (separating from Lombok Island), the Sape Strait to the east (separating from Komodo Island), the Indian Ocean to the south, and the Flores Sea to the north. The largest city is Bima, which is in the eastern part of the island.
This island has an area of 14,386 km2, and is the largest island in the province of West Nusa Tenggara, and one of the two main islands in the province. Its highest point is Mount Tambora (2,824 m), which is also an active volcano. The uniqueness of Sumbawa is Bungin Island which is included in the area of Alas Subdistrict, Sumbawa Regency. Bungin Island is the most populous island in the world which has a density of 15000 people / square km. This happens because the area of Bungin Island is less than 8 hectares and is occupied by around 3000 inhabitants.

The name of Ratenggaro Village is located in the area of Umbu Ngedo Village, Kodi Bangedo District is approximately 40km from Tambolaka Ratenggaro itself has the meaning ‘Rate’ means grave and ‘Garo’ means people garo.
This traditional village is unique to its traditional house (Uma Kelada) which has a characteristic the towering tower reaches 15 meters. The roof uses the basic ingredients of straw and high and low roofs are based on their social status. Ratenggaro Traditional House has a stage house that consists of 4 levels, in which the lowest level is used as a pet's place. Then the second level is where the homeowner lives together.
